Hi Tech History
May 27, 2010
We snapped U Mass Amherst?s Carl Fiocchi at the recent McGraw Hill Construction Green Bim conference, where he explained that he's using the latest technology to investigate historic structures. He started with the Gropius House in Lincoln with the intent of finding out if modernist icons perform as originally planned. Carl uses BIM to input data on a house assemblage: windows, roof, walls, insulation. Decades of energy bills are also dropped into the program to look at operational issues. Virtual models then tell Carl whether the trees Gropius planted actually help save money on power. Stay tuned. Only research will tell. |
