How Wired Is Your Building?

Coming to a building near us by November is WiredScore, started a year ago as WiredNYC to measure how well buildings were wired for telecom and Internet. After checking out at least 300 properties, cofounders Phil Kanfer and Arie Barendrecht are expanding to Chicago, San Francisco, Washington, and The Hub. A national website will also launch where building owners can register and certify their buildings.

Wired certifications evaluate a building’s connectedness, a standard useful to building managers and leasing agents when potential tenants ask for details on telecom and connectivity. Now the prospects can get a one-page report detailing a building's tech attributes. Aside from quadrupling the number of buildings in its database, the group partnered with CoStar to distinguish which properties are certified, and endorsements have come from groups like the Real Estate Board of New York, BOMA, and ULI.
