Joy in the Blues
August 15, 2011
We were pleased to host our first Schmoozarama on Thursday at the House of Blues in the Fenway where 250 joined us for light hors d'oeuvres and open bar, assiduously avoiding the dance floor. |
We snapped a contingent from sponsor Lincoln Property Co with friends: LPC?s Scott Faber, Samantha Shedlock, Justin Rosenbaum, KPMG?s David Blatt, AEW?s Ian Platt and LPC's Barbara Oddo. Scott tells us that LPC has grown this year adding 10 new people so far and is moving ahead with the development of a new 720-bed dorm for Northeastern. At Two Financial Center, Barbara says floors 2 through 8 are leased, so LPC is now focusing on filling 9 through 12. |
Finegold Alexander?s Elizabeth Wylie says the architecture firm is moving through approvals for a major 54-unit condo project at 102-110 Broad St on the Greenway. The New Boston Ventures' project is still somewhat under the radar but promises to bring more vitality to this emerging neighborhood created by the Big Dig. Bergmeyer's Michael Davis says these days his architecture and interiors firm is very much about retail. It's hot, hot, hot, he tells us. But, of course, so is multifamily and Mike says that Bergmeyer is designing a deep energy retrofit for the Cathedral family homes in the South End. Construction is halfway done, slated for completion by year-end. |
Cambridge Economic Research?s Margaret Collins, VHB's Mary McCarthy, and Equity Residential?s Andrew Copelotti and Greg White. Margaret analyzes CRE trends, markets, and projects to assess the feasibility of proposed deals and developments. Recently, she studied a deal that Chicago-based Centrum Properties was considering at the Galesburg SP Logistics Park. She told them not to bother. Greg is still in permitting (surprise, surprise) for ER?s big project proposed for Stanford Street. He's also looking for the next great development deal. |
Apparently engineers like to party together. Pare?s David Easterbrooks tells us that his Lincoln, RI-based firm is working on building six new high schools in Massachusetts. The first in this round that is scheduled for completion, Norwood High School, will open this fall. RDK?s James Koloski says his firm is working on the $156M, 350k SF UMass Amherst science building, designed by Wilson Architects, which got into construction in the spring and is due for completion October ?12. |
DiMella Shaffer principal Randy Kreie is working with Lincoln Property on the Northeastern residence hall. He tells us it's possible that construction may start in the fall, eyeing a '13 completion. He's with Chapman Construction/Design Guy Compagnone, the strong silent type. |
Kling Stubbins? Scott Simpson tells us that his Cambridge-based firm is designing a spec lab/ office for Forest City at 300 Mass Ave. They're also completing some projects for Shire in Lexington including the nearly 200k SF lab/office (lyrically named Building 200) that can be seen from Rte 2. |
Air Graphics? Rich Dooley tells us that Air just completed an exhibit for the Design Museum of Boston that is now on the mezzanine level of the Prudential Center mall. It extols the vitality that goes into creating consumer products. Metric Corp?s Gerry-Lynn Darcy had a celebration of her own going. Gerry-Lynn tells us that Metric recently completed construction on two dorms for Lasell College in Newton. The 15k SF buildings (that sit over a 30k SF garage) were designed by Steffian Bradley. At the DeCordova Museum in Lincoln, Metric also did the multi-phase renovation and 15k SF addition designed by Kallman McKenna Wood. |
Robert Brown loved being at CBT where he was the principal in charge of the Atlantic Wharf project. That's why he stayed with the firm for 35 years. But he recently joined Perkins + Will as managing director of the Boston office. Now, he's overseeing the construction of the new 265k SF Spaulding Rehab Hospital being built in the Charlestown Navy Yard. Robert says that the new facility, laced with lots of outdoor spaces, will elevate the level of care Spaulding can deliver. |
Fox?s Andrew Feibelman says his firm is managing the relo projects for MFS into about 300k SF at 111 Huntington Ave, for Braver in Needham, Modus Link in Waltham, and Fragomen in Boston. Cosentini?s Ed Dolan says his firm's engineers are part of Millennium Partner?s project at Hayward Place for which they're now bidding out sub-contracts; the early planning for the redevelopment of Quincy Center and last week won a contract to work with John Hynes? Boston Global Investors on its megaproject, Seaport Square. |
LPC?s Scott Faber, here with Heading Home's Emily Smalldon. Scott, who raffled off a case of wine to benefit the non-profit, also wants to give Heading Home a shout out for its mission to permanently end homelessness in the Boston area. |
