Making the Old New
November 4, 2010
No, plaques aren't an appetizer nowadays. These folks earned theirs. We snapped the winners of best historic rehab using new construction at the recent National Housing and Rehabilitation Association?s annual award ceremony. It's Prellwitz/Chilinski?s David Chilinski and Beacon Communities Pamela Goodman and the project was their conversion of the long-empty Wilber School in Sharon into 75 mixed-income rentals. Pam says one of the challenges was to fit the new four-level addition to the old structure (which had three floors with six levels) and then connect that to the new four-level addition. She says it was a ?very complex design issue? but very gratifying since the project gave new life to a moribund building. |
