PUBLIC SURGING
April 27, 2010
Yesterday, we snapped the $150M renovation of the Cambridge Rindge and Latin School, last overhauled in the 1970?s. You may have heard private construction projects are few and far between, so it's public projects like this that are keeping shovels in the ground. School department COO Jim Maloney says they're about halfway toward 2011 completion of the two-year project (at recession pricing) on what is the city's only high school. Twenty-two classrooms are in the works. The theater (where Matt and Ben once strutted their hours on stage) is rebuilt and rigged for live broadcasts. More classrooms are going in along with bigger science labs with special areas for experiments and teaching. The whole school will be wireless and aims for LEED Silver. Jim says the inside/out remake will display the city's long standing commitment to public education, ?a major draw for families.? |
