Shout Out to Another Industry Vet
Judith Selwyn
We snapped Judith Selwyn, PhD (Dr. Judy to her friends) earlier this month accepting the Codman Award for Lifetime Achievement from the Boston Preservation Alliance. She says after 38 years doing architectural conservation, specializing in masonry and historic roofs, she's still climbing scaffolding in skirts to the astonishment of many a "mason," as in a brick layer. Early on, the Brooklyn, NY native was one of few females to graduate from MIT with a PhD in physical chemistry. She was among the first students in Boston University's preservation program. Future generations that admire Boston's built history can thank Dr. Judy for her part in preserving the Old State House, the Athenaeum, the Massachusetts State House, and the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, to name a few.
