TOP WOMEN
April 21, 2010
Walking into a NEWIRE event is a great way to remember how many women are doing cool things in a male dominated industry. At last week?s 12th annual achievement awards at the Copley Plaza, we snapped MC Terri Stanley,NEWIRE prez Barbara Trachtenberg, and Esprit de Coeur Award winner Nancy McCafferty. Barbara, a DLA Piper partner, faced the challenge of helping out-of-work NEWIRE members—while balancing a smaller budget—by focusing on informal networking events and starting a dues payment plan. Nancy who won for embodying the group?s heart and soul said it's natural for her to be a booster. As a school cheerleader, ?I didn't need a megaphone.? |
?Being successful is all about passion,? said Jane Williams as she accepted the Leadership Award. Now at ING Clarion, she's a past NEWIRE president who has worked for years to advance women in the industry. Among her continuing New Year?s resolutions, she targets NEWIRE women to do business with each year. Now, she's also advocating for the establishment of Boston's first Business Improvement District. She spoke of her love for the city, its people and streets, and exhorted everyone to support colleagues. |
How?s this for avant garde? We snapped someone snapping a pic of Maria Krokidas accepting her Entrepreneur of the Year award, recognizing her 30 years of building a woman-owned law firm (with a majority of female attorneys); it's worked on major real estate deals like the development of the Seaport District Convention Center. Starting her own business was ?like stepping off a cliff afraid the parachute wouldn?t open.? She thanked her family and the ?amazingly talented? NEWIRE members. The public service award winner, Boston Private Bank and Trusts? Esther Schlorholtz, also shared the credit: ?People who do community development deals are the most caring, skillful real estate professionals I know.? Congrats to all. |
