Target Stalking Sites
June 13, 2011
Target has been using the lull of the recession to "dramatically" revamp its existing 1,755 stores across the country. But the big news in Boston is it's looking at four or five new sites in the Boston market, including two ?close to downtown,? Target EVP for property development John Griffith tells us. |
In October, renovations will be completed on its South Bay store. John says Target likes Boston because it's a healthy market and is one of the most highly educated big cities in America. (Healthy and wise, two out of three works). That means a lot in these slow economic times. This year, he tells us, Target will open 21 new stores nationwide compared to about 110 in good times, given the development of new retail centers has slowed. John oversees a $4B budget, and is responsible for a real estate portfolio that includes 234M SF of retail, 51M SF of industrial distribution space, and 6M SF of office.
