The $375M Lab
April 19, 2011
The Eli and Edythe L. Broad Institute is floating up to $375M in bonds through the Mass Development Finance Agency for a new research facility near—and connector to—its Cambridge HQ. Sothat's what you should tell kids who ask why studying science and math in high school is important. |
The Institute is a collaboration of MIT, Harvard, its affiliated hospitals, and the Whitehead Institute—and is a world leader in genomic discovery. Last August, the City of Cambridge approved a plan for a new 230k SF research space. Now, signaling that the project is advancing toward construction, a recent Moody?sInvestors Service credit analysis reports that the bonds are being issued for the building to be located behind Broad?s main site at 7 Cambridge Center. The new office and lab space was designed by Elkus Manfredi Architects to house 600 life science researchers. It also features a public ground-floor museum of genomic research with access to current and historical research. |
