The Wrap for MIT’s New Sloan Home
August 19, 2010
Just a punch list remains to tie up work on Sloan?s $111M new home designed by Moore Rubell Yudell Architects & Planners with Brunner Cott/Architects. The exterior features a striking sculpture by Cai Guo Quiang, with links carved from one enormous piece of granite. It emphasizes the pedagogical goal of the new building: to support new curricular directions that foster collaboration. |
The front faces Memorial Drive and the river and also greets visitors with a sweeping, airy lobby that we couldn't resist snapping. Construction started in May ?07, the building was dedicated in May this year, and faculty are moving into upper floors. Everyone plans to be in their new offices ready by start of this academic year. |
