Tomorrow's Healthcare Summit
November 28, 2011
Boston's healthcare sector rocks on. All over town, new hospital and medical buildings are being planned, going up, or just opening, often sporting cutting edge technology. You can hear how it's done and what's in the pipeline from those in the know atBisnow's Healthcare Summit, tomorrow at the Hyatt Regency, 7 to 10am (including schmooze time). Register today. |
Bisnow panelist Paula Quan, Children's Hospital's executive director for capital planning, has managed $1B of its development. Now, she's overseeing the 120k SF, 10-story Binney St project to be completed by summer '13. She says the new infill building, aka Skinny Binney, will help Children's boost efficiency and intensifyfocus on patient care by creating more single rooms. Also, the building will accommodate new technology allowing patients to be on the same floor as an MEG that detects faint changes in child and infant brains to help determine the best treatment. |
Jane Barry, another panelist, directs master planning and building projects for the 634-bed Boston Medical Center. She says that the recently completed $190M Shapiro Ambulatory CareCenter is part of a 10-year effort to elevate the patient experience and create a more efficient facility following the merger of Boston City Hospital and the BU Medical Center Hospital. The building also responds to changes in the patient population and healthcare delivery. Exam rooms average 120 SF (versus 80 SF prior) and have larger exam tables and more technology than in the past. |
