Why Novartis Loves Cambridge
July 20, 2012
With a $600M campus under construction near Central Square, Novartis Institutes global head of communications Jeff Lockwood says the healthcare giant considers Cambridge to be an ideal place to recruit talent and collaborate in research. (And he doesn't just mean secretly brilliant janitors.) | |
The Swiss-based firm established its global HQ for research here because Cambridge has elements for cutting edge research in every high school class you hated—biology and chemistry—and some you didn't know existed: infomatics, computer modeling, and biotech. Novartis started construction on a three-building lab complex designed by Maya Lin and Toshiko Mori in the spring and expects completion in ’15. Then the company will leave some leased space and have a true campus here. Jeff says it also has real estate projects under way in Shanghai and Basel.
