Mayor Pushes For New Construction Safety Ordinance
Boston Mayor Martin Walsh filed an ordinance with the goal to improve construction worker safety. The proposed law would change the Boston Municipal Code to allow city officials to deny, revoke or suspend a work permit based on a company’s work safety history. Also, those applying for work permits would be required to inform officials of any violations with OSHA, the Boston Business Journal reports.
The moves comes after the deaths of two workers on a South End construction site last month. "We know how dangerous work sites can be, and in Boston we are committed to doing all we can to protect those working in our city,” the mayor said in a statement. If the City Council approves the ordinance, it would take effect at once. [BBJ]
