Encore Boston Harbor Scored Nearly $17M In Opening Week Gaming Revenue
Wynn Resorts hit the jackpot in its Massachusetts debut.
Encore Boston Harbor brought in $16.7M for the last week of June, the Everett casino's first week of operation. MGM Springfield made $19.9M for the entire month, the Boston Globe reports. The Springfield casino brought in $9.5M of gaming revenue in its opening week in August 2018.
Encore’s opening haul translates to $4.1M in tax revenue for Massachusetts. The state made $4.9M from MGM Springfield last month and an additional $6.6M in taxes from Plainridge Park Casino. The slots parlor is taxed at a higher 49% gross gaming revenue rate than the 25% tax on full-scale resort casinos like Encore and MGM.
It has not been publicly disclosed how much Encore Boston Harbor has made off nongaming components of the resort, like its 15 dining options or 671-room hotel.
Hotel analysts earlier this month reported the resort appears to be doing well based on average daily rates increasing from $690 in July to $705 in August.
