One of downtown Boston’s most upscale hotels is temporarily checking out.

The Langham Boston in Post Office Square will close in April to undergo a refresh that will include renovating all event space, guest rooms and public areas, the Boston Real Estate Times reports. The hotel is expected to be closed for a year while it gets the update.

“This renovation will highlight the architectural grandeur of this iconic building, which has a robust history within the city of Boston,” The Langham Boston Managing Director Richard Bussiere told the Real Estate Times. “When it is completed, we will be able to say without a shadow of a doubt that The Langham is one of the very best luxury hotels in the United States.”

The renovation is the second high-end hotel refresh announced this week.

The Taj Boston is expected to temporarily lay off 133 workers this winter when it closes The Café, The Bar and The Tea Lounge in January as part of an overall hotel renovation, the Boston Business Journal reports. San Francisco-based Iconiq Capital, the Taj’s owner, revealed renovation plans for the entire hotel earlier this year, but those won't entail shutting down the entire property.

The Langham’s renovation will coincide with a $250M facade upgrade taking place next door at One Post Office Square, home to JLL Boston’s office.
