Lynn Facility Reportedly Spared From GE Aviation Move To Cincinnati
An Ohio restructuring at GE Aviation isn’t expected to impact operations at the company’s Lynn, Massachusetts, operation.
GE Aviation, General Electric’s commercial and military jet part subsidiary, is condensing its Ohio operations to downtown Cincinnati. The company has several hundred employees in leased space around Evendale, Ohio, and they are expected to move beginning in March from the northern suburb to GE’s Global Operations Center on the banks of the Ohio River, the Cincinnati Business Courier reports.
GE Aviation’s River Works manufacturing plant in Lynn employs 2,500 people, according to a January report in the Daily Item. They aren’t expected to be impacted by the Ohio employee move, which pertains to digital and technology teams.
That is good enough for a Massachusetts silver lining. GE announced last week it will not pursue a planned 12-story second phase to its global headquarters under construction in Boston’s Fort Point neighborhood. Rather than the 800 jobs originally planned, the company will employ just 250 in a 95K SF office.
