Danish Drug Company Signs Full-Building Lease At Alexandria's Waltham Campus
Alexandria Real Estate Equities secured a full-building lease at its "mega campus" in Waltham.
Danish drug company Novo Nordisk signed a 166K SF lease at the REIT's 60 Sylvan Roan property, Alexandria announced Friday. The project is under construction and expected to deliver in 2025.
The property is part of a larger life sciences campus, called Reservoir Woods East, that Alexandria acquired in 2020 from The Davis Cos. and Marcus Partners for $330M. The campus includes a 313K SF office building at 40 Sylvan Road and two life sciences buildings totaling 202K SF at 50-60 Sylvan Road.
In January, Alexandria acquired another 298K SF property next door at 35 Gatehouse Drive for $272M, a deal it said would help create a "mega campus" in the city.
Novo Nordisk acquired Waltham-based biotech firm Corvidia Therapeutics in 2020 for $725M. Corvidia worked out of the AstraZeneva biohub at 35 Gatehouse Drive, and Novo Nordisk set up a small operation in 2019 with 10 employees at Cambridge Innovation Center in Kendall Square.
Alexandria has made other notable steps in the Boston suburbs this year, with its master plan for the Watertown Mall being approved last month by the city's planning board, Watertown News reported. The plan includes 682K SF of lab space, 104K SF of residential space and 215K SF of retail space.
