South Bay's 475-Unit Residential Phase Breaks Ground
The redevelopment of a site adjacent to the South Bay shopping center is underway, as Lee Kennedy Co. recently broke ground on the residential portion of real estate developer Edens’ 700K SF mixed-use South Bay Center in Dorchester.
“In place of the underutilized former industrial sites, the South Bay Center by EDENS will create a vibrant neighborhood while helping the City of Boston to achieve its market-rate and workforce housing goals,” Lee Kennedy Co. CEO Lee Michael Kennedy said in a statement.
Edens, a Washington, D.C.-based shopping center operator and developer, broke ground in August 2016 on the 11-acre mixed-use development next to the South Bay shopping center. The residential phase will include 475 apartments, including 62 units marked as affordable housing.
Pritzker Realty Group acquired the residential development rights from Edens in March. The first residential building is scheduled to open in fall 2018 while the second will be completed in Q1 2019. The project also includes 160K SF of retail, a 130-room hotel and 113K SF of public space.
