Boston Properties Gets Approval For Kendall Square Tower
The Cambridge skyline continues to grow.
Boston Properties won unanimous approval this week from the Cambridge Planning Board and Cambridge Redevelopment Authority for an 18-story glass tower in Kendall Square. The building would replace the MIT Coop bookstore at 325 Main St. Google is the likely anchor tenant, the Boston Business Journal reports.
The development will create a new head house for the Kendall Square MBTA station, maintain and improve access to a public rooftop garden and connect to Google’s current office at 355 Main St. The new Boston Properties building will feature retail and restaurants on lower floors.
Boston Properties also plans to create a coworking space in a nearby building for nonprofit companies to provide technology education to underrepresented groups.
The planned tower comes amid an ongoing construction boom in Kendall Square, including across the street, where Boeing has agreed to lease 100K SF at an MIT-developed building planned for 314 Main St.
