Thermo Fisher Scientific Takes New Digs In Waltham
Thermo Fisher Scientific opened its new HQ in Waltham, a 286k SF building at 168 Third Ave that's about three times the size of its former headquarters, about a half a mile away. The new property is also a lot more energy efficient, garnering LEED Silver, sporting (among other things) LED light fixtures throughout, eight EV charging stations and 14 indoor bicycle racks, the Boston Business Journal reports.
The new building also reflects a new approach to workplaces. Workspaces and common areas encourage open communication, and its tech connects the company’s global hub to elsewhere in the world for real-time collaboration. The company makes analytical instruments, equipment, software and services for the scientific research industry.
This year marks the 10th anniversary of the merger between Thermo Electron and Fisher Scientific that created Thermo Fisher Scientific. Over the last decade, the company has nearly doubled its annual revenue from $9B to more than $17B; grown its global employee base from 30,000 to more than 50,000; and increased its R&D expenditure from $280M to $700M.
