Wayfair Nabs $31M In Tax Breaks For Massachusetts Expansion
A Massachusetts tax incentive body has given one of its biggest awards to one of Boston’s fastest-growing companies.
The Massachusetts Economic Assistance Coordinating Council approved a $31.4M tax break to Wayfair for the e-commerce company’s planned job expansion in Boston and Pittsfield. The company promised to add 3,000 jobs in Boston and 300 at a new call center in Pittsfield, the Boston Business Journal reports.
The tax break is one of the largest given in MEACC history and pertains to Wayfair’s planned expansion at 10 St. James Ave. and 75 Arlington St., which Bisnow first reported in August. The company already has a 655K SF headquarters at Copley Place as well as a 400K SF office at 500 Boylston St./222 Berkeley St. The three buildings combined will be able to house 10,000 workers.
Wayfair pledged to create the new jobs and retain 3,809 jobs within Massachusetts as part of the tax break, which it could lose if it fails to meet its commitment. The Pittsfield call center will be Wayfair’s ninth in the U.S.
