Developer Says He Has Minor League Team Interested In Malden
A developer proposing a new baseball stadium in Malden has not even built it, and they have (potentially) come.
Alex Bok, founder of the Malden Field of Dreams project, said he has found a Minor League Baseball team to buy and bring to his proposed Malden ballpark, the Boston Globe reports.
The developer’s website is currently running a countdown to a projected opening day of April 15, 2019. While he said Minor League Baseball regulations keep him from giving further details, the Sports Advisory Group, which represents clients in professional sports team sales, is currently marketing several Single-A teams, including one in the DC area.
Bok is proposing a private/public partnership on the 6,000-seat ballpark with $60M in private funds and $20M in taxpayer money from the state. He said in February that East Boston Savings Bank and Eastern Bank had expressed interest in financing the project.
