Ready for Entire Boston 2024 Olympics Bid?
It’s amazing what a subpoena threat—reinforced by a demand from Mayor Walsh—will do. For months, Boston 2024—the private organizers of the City’s bid to host the 2024 Summer Olympics—refused to release a copy of the full bid document it had submitted to the US Olympic Committee. Some worried that it included the use of tax dollars—despite denials by the bid organizers. Yesterday, City councilor Tito Jackson threatened that he would subpoena the bid text. Last night, Mayor Walsh, who was visiting the Pope in Rome, asked Boston 2024 to provide the original bid, in its entirety, for public review. Shortly thereafter, Boston 2024 chairman Steve Paliuca promised to release the full bid document next week.
