New York City-based architectural consultancy Vidaris expanded its New England presence with the acquisition of Boston-based CBI Consulting, a 33-year-old architecture, interiors and engineering firm.

Vidaris, which specializes in building envelope, energy efficiency, specialty engineering, code and construction services, aims to significantly broaden both practices while solidifying its leadership in the Boston market with this partnership.

“CBI’s decision to partner with us immediately expands the services they provide their clients and provides exciting professional development opportunities for its employees,” Vidaris CEO Marc Weissbach said. “CBI has earned a stellar reputation with its clients, and we know that they share our commitment to excellence in all aspects of their practice.”

CBI and Vidaris’ combined team of approximately 280 employees shares a strong commitment to client service, attention to detail and dedication to focused problem-solving. The firms both take an integrated, holistic approach to addressing building challenges in new construction and renovation projects.

According to Weissbach, CBI's project portfolio complements Vidaris’ core competencies with a mix of historic preservation, restoration and adaptive reuse projects. As Boston's construction starts continue to rise, and its height restrictions soften, many developers will be looking to architects and engineers to help them build skyward.

“The partnership will be transformative for both companies, and will create a firm with expanded reach, enhanced capabilities and terrific value for our clients," Weissbach said.

CBI has deep local expertise and over 30 employees providing services to clients in the corporate, government, institutional, higher education, housing and real estate development markets.

“The joining of CBI and Vidaris unites two market leaders and allows CBI to bring even greater resources and a broader range of services to our clients and the market,” CBI Consulting Principal Michael Teller said. “CBI is now an important part of a larger organization that has a global architectural presence and is one of the world’s top consultancy firms.”
