Visitors to North Carolina in 2010 spent a record $17B, an increase of 9% from $15.6B in 2009, according to recent stats from Gov. Bev Perdue?s office. The total was higher than the previous record of $16.8B set in 2008. The Tar Heel State was the sixth-most-visited in the nation, with 36.8 million tourists. (That's the Gov above shown last year with local developer Johnny Harris and the PGA'sJoe Steranka announcing that Charlotte's Quail Hollow Country Club will host the 2017 PGA Championship.) Visitor spending generated more than $947M in state tax revenue last year, a 12.6% increase over 2009. Visitors spend more than $46.6M per day in the state and contribute $4.1M per day in state and local tax revenue as a result of that spending, according to the US Travel Association. |
