AT OUR TECH CONFAB IN DC
May 12, 2011
Yesterday at the DC Renaissance, we were delighted to welcome FCC chairman Julius Genachowski, center, with former FCC chairman Dick Wiley (who despite his youth served in that role under Presidents Nixon, Ford, and Carter, which as we recall was even before phones had been invented), and former US Senator from North Dakota Byron Dorgan. The occasion was our Bisnow Tech event, ?The Future of Mobile,? which panelists see in this era as virtually the future of civilization. |
A key challenge, according to Julius (here with moderator Ross Buntrock of law firm Arent Fox): demand for spectrum. It's increasing exponentially, sometimes 3,500% a year, with only a flat supply; he proposes an auction of spectrum released by existing owners in return for a share of the profit. |
