“BRING SOMETHING TO THE TABLE”
Learning the finer points of commercial real estate on the graduate level can make someone technically proficient, says UNC Charlotte's Dr. Dustin Read, associate director of the school?s Center for Real Estate. But employers are looking for more. ?They're looking for self-starters,? he says. ?They need someone with the skills to interact with their clients.? (That's Dustin above with new son, Sawyer.) An MBA gives a prospective job candidate knowledge and skill, but the industry is more competitive than ever. The economic downturn has washed away a lot of dead weight, and companies that are hiring back are looking for people with experience and drive. They want people who recognize that they have to bring something to the table, not just fill the chair. ?They have to figure out how they can add value and do it almost immediately,? Dustin says. |
