CREW CHARLOTTE GOES PUBLIC (SORT OF)
August 11, 2011
150 gathered uptown this week for CREW Charlotte's monthly luncheon at the Ritz Carlton. But the largely private-sector group heard a slightly different twist on the local business scene. Guest speakers were two decidedly public figures: Charlotte Dept. of Transportation?s Dan Gallagher and Neighborhood & Business Services? Tom Warshauer. |
The pair shared the podium debunking certain myths, including the adage that retail follows rooftops. Some heavily populated areas of Charlotte have not held their tax value and have failed to draw the anticipated secondary development, Dan said: Other factors besides raw human population come into play, like quality of public schools and how well thoroughfares are integrated into neighborhoods. The public and private sectors need to work better to include parks, greenways and the kind of infrastructure that people look for in a great place to live, Tom says. ?If you can create a place where people want to linger, then that creates value for all of us.? |
