FMC'S BIG EXPANSION
Charlotte-based global manufacturer FMC Lithium announced last Friday it will expand its plant capacity with $50M in capital improvements aimed at meeting the surging demand for lithium batteries. (They fuel things like hybrid cars... and soon... robots!)

Charlotte Chamber President Bob Morgan was given a tour of the plant last week by FMC?s Jon Evans.
FMC is making the improvements at its 220-employee Bessemer City plant, which will likely mean at least 25 new hires over time. Above, Charlotte Chamber president Bob Morgan was given a tour of the plant last week by FMC?s Jon Evans. FMC?s global directorEric Norris told us that the demand for stored power (industry jargon for batteries) is prompting the capacity expansion, which should be functional by '14.
