HEALTHCARE PROPOSAL AXED
Town of Huntersville halts development on 66-bed behavioral-health hospital
Huntersville town officials Monday nixed a plan by Carolinas Healthcare System to build a 66-bed behavioral-health hospital. The Huntersville Board of Commissioners voted against rezoning a 17-acre tract off NC Hwy 115 next to the Charlotte healthcare system?s Huntersville Oaks skilled-nursing facility. The proposal previously had received the endorsement of the Huntersville planning board. But the healthcare provider hasn?t thrown in the towel. The services that would be housed at the facility are needed in the community, hospital officials say. Carolinas Healthcare?s Mary Beth Kuzmanovich was unavailable for comment but we understand that Carolinas Healthcare is reviewing its options to determine next steps.
