PARK LANES GOES RETRO (AGAIN)
It opened in 1960. Percy Faith?s Theme from A Summer Place, was the No. 1 pop hit and a certain Massachusetts senator had just won the White House. And some anonymous someone rolled the first ball down Park Lanes at Montford Drive and Park Road. It has been a staple family R&R hot spot ever since. In fact, Park Lanes was a gathering place before that part of town was even in the city limits and a hamburger at the luncheonette cost 20 cents. The 30k SF building has been modified and ?improved? upon over the decades. (These days, lots of '80s-style wallpaper; and is that paint really a color found in nature?) But the lanes are sound, and new Park Lanes owner, Legacy Real Estate Advisors? Adam Williams (above), along with partners Jamie Muir and Mike Scornavacchi, have devised a makeover plan that will restore the venerable bowling alley to its former glory. |
Adam wouldn?t tell us the project cost, but we'll ask again later. The food quality will be jacked up quite a bit. (But the fried pickles will be staying. Whew!) Nationally renowned Chef Daniel Boone Gibson, a BBQ man from way back, is revamping the menu. ?We're going to have the best BBQ in Charlotte,? Adam tells us. The building exterior also will get a makeover with the addition of a wrap-around porch, a Bocce pit, ping pong tables, and other games of ?skill.? Plans are to have the makeover wrapped in October.
