Charlotte's got the fever for the Democratic National Convention in 2012, and it's led one local developer to posit that the Queen City could one day host an Olympics. Developer Johnny Harris of Lincoln Harris (at a recent awards ceremony in his honor) said theDems? big party will certainly draw attention to Charlotte, possibly paving the way to Olympic Gold. But real estate watchers are skeptical. Charlotte hotels (and their Southern hospitality) will accommodate the expected 35,000 delegates and media. But meeting Olympic demand may still be a triple Lutz too far, says JLL SVP Ros Mallory. ?It sounds a little grandiose to me,? he says. ?But this will create the kind of huge exposure that could lead to [even] bigger things.? |
