TEACHING THEM TO FISH…
A Nobel laureate from India came up with the idea for ?microfinancing,? and now a contingent of Charlotte business leaders is trying to bring the message home. We snapped Red F marketing CEO Sara Garces Roselli and Wells Fargo corporate banker Joe Mynatt at a recent showing of To Catch a Dollar, a documentary about Muhammad Yunus? Grameen America project. New York-based Grameen makes very small loans (usually about $1,500) available to people under the poverty line. It then helps guide them through the banking, investment, and savings process, enabling many to own successful businesses. Sara and Joe are serving on a local committee attempting to promote the idea of bringing Grameen to Charlotte, the nation's second-largest banking center. ?It's a population segment the [traditional] banks don't work with that much,? Joe says. |
