Portman Lands Major Tenants: A Suburban Relocation And Charlotte's First WeWork
Portman signed two major leases at 615 South College in Uptown totaling nearly 75K SF, including one relocation from outside of Uptown and WeWork's entry into Charlotte.
On Monday, WeWork announced that it will occupy about 46K SF on the eighth and ninth floors. It will be the first location in Charlotte for the collaborative space specialist.
BDO USA inked a lease for nearly 25K SF at 615 South College in Uptown, with plans to move all of its Charlotte-area employees from the accounting firm's current space outside of Uptown to the new location as early as August.
“Over the last few months, we've seen more demand from local groups that are growing," Trinity Partners' Travis Garland said. "BDO is a great example. The company is expanding in size with its move to 615." Along with colleague John Ball, Garland repped the landlord, Portman Holdings. Colliers International's Brent Royall repped BDO.
These are the second and third leases for this 370K SF spec building. Portman announced last year that Regions Bank leased more than 60K SF and will move in later this year, after the building is completed.
"Business expansion will continue in the near-term, and the market for premium office space will continue to tighten," Garland said. "We also expect to continue to see suburban companies give CBD and South End a look to help with employee recruitment and retention, as amenities, access and light-rail are top of mind.”
