Why Demand For Self-Storage Is Strong In Charlotte
Taylor/Theus Holdings plans to develop a 135k SF self-storage facility in Charlotte at Ardrey Kell and Community House. The company had the land rezoned this summer and plans to complete construction by next summer.
Taylor/Theus Holdings' David Ellison tells us when the company—which has been active in Charlotte for several years—first entered the market, company leaders were surprised at the development opportunities available. "Aside from a few Class-A facilities, it was almost as if the market had missed the last development cycle," he says.
The three-story facility will be comprised of over 1,000 units, including wine storage. The facility will be managed by Extra Space Storage and provide storage to a high-income, undersupplied area of suburban Charlotte, according to David.
"With the rebound of the banking industry, the growth in Charlotte has been remarkable, especially the number of apartments built or under construction," he says. "While we've seen a significant increase in the number of facilities announced and under construction, we still feel that Charlotte has opportunities for new development, especially in areas with high barriers to entry."
