6,000 Acres

Chicago
6,000 Acres
Our headline is how much land JLL's Len Caldeira has sold or leased in his 41-year career. Match that, and you (like Len will next month) could receive the Lifetime Achievement Award from NAIOP, for a career at LaSalle Partners, Cushman & Wakefield, Staubach, and JLL.

Len Caldeira
Having bought and sold land in 16 states, Len tells us he thinks of his job as being a closet developer—finding the best use of a piece of land and then bringing the right people to the deal. Len's favorite and possibly largest project is the 650-acre Cantera  development in Warrenville, which is home to several office and retail buildings just off of I-88. He also enjoys mentoring young leaders  and has ushered about 10 new brokers into the field.

Len started his career in Manhattan before moving to C&W  in Chicago to do office leasing in the '70s. He later moved to  IDC, which became LaSalle Partners, and stayed there for 23 years, before returning to run the Rosemont office of C&W in the mid-'90s. When Staubach started its industrial team in the late '90s, they called Len, who ended up back at JLL when the company acquired Staubach in 2008. Since then, JLL's industrial team has grown from just 30 before the purchase of Staubach to more than 225. Len says he's thrilled to receive an award for his efforts and has planned "a little fun" for his acceptance speech at the dinner next month. YouTube awaits.
