CREW GOES CRUISING
March 28, 2011

Planes, trains, and automobiles occupied the minds of CREW members at their monthly luncheon last week, as the O'Hare Modernization Program's Cyle Cantrell joined a panel of experts on Chicago transit. OMP announced earlier this month that it's taking bids on $1.17B of construction that'll will include finalizing Runway 10. (It's a sensitive project, given a cemetary will have to be moved.) Cyle says the OMP will host several contractor open houses and they're encouraging women- and minority-owned businesses to come bid on the project. The current funding and plans are good throughMarch 2013, when government and airline reps sit down to discuss what's next.

Missing a street in front of your building? You're not the only one. Parts of the north-south portion of Wacker Drive are being ripped up and reconstructed as a slice of the $350M Revive Wacker Drive Project, says the Chicago Department of Transportation's Luann Hamilton. The project will affect one block at a time until the end of 2012, but then we'll have a 3.1-acre park complete with a dog area near the Congress Interchange as well as more vertical clearance to prevent trucks from getting stuck on Lower Wacker. Also in the works: the $67M renovation of the Grand Ave Red Line's mezzanine (which will double it to 2,000 SF) and a new $30M to $35M Green Line station at Morgan in the West Loop.
