Count on Your County
April 14, 2010
Ask not what you can do for your county, but what your county can do for you. AIRE gathered at the Rosewood in Rosemont to learn about government incentives offered by four Chicagoland counties. Choose DuPage's Roger Hopkins explained that his county is using Recovery Zone Bonds to attract new businesses that can borrow at a lower rate. Aurora used the opening of the interchange at Eola Road to open up more potential industrial sites near I-88. Cook County Assesor's Office's John Nyhan, right, said that Cook is focusing on utilizing vacant buildings, giving companies a 10% of market value property tax on a building that has been vacant for more than 24 months (versus the standard 25%). | |
Before we mention the gents above, Will County's John Grueling was also on the panel and says it's offering a 50% tax abatement over five years on new industrial properties. Lake County's Phil Roving is counting on the one-lane expansion of Route 53 to grow business. Above, we snapped HSA Commercial Real Estate's Steven Tazalla, Club Group's Karl Kalas, and Development Solutions, Inc's Jacob Karamol. Karl repped the seller of an 18k-SF building along Weber Road, and Jacob recently signed his first lease, a retail expansion for 2k-SF in Northbrook. |
