Do It Yourself
Look for new names in the Yellow Pages after yesterday's CREW lunch at 330 N. Wabash. Topic du jour: Starting your own business. |
We snapped MBG Consulting's Mirela Gabrovska, pointing out that 60% of Chicago CREW members are business owners or employed by a small business. The same number (although hopefully not the same people) are out of work or didn't know if they'd be able to keep their jobs much longer. Circle Realty Advisors Alissa Helgesen(below) said the recession has presented her with opportunities because people who wouldn't usually consider working for a small firm are looking to her. |
Sharon Krohn Executive Search's Sharon Krohn with speakers Strada Real Estate Service's Nancy Roach and Alissa. They both advised finding good advisers (sounds self-serving, but it wasn't) when starting a business, such as a trusted lawyer, accountant, and marketing professional. Both women had always wanted to strike out on their own—Nancy?s first business as a child was selling seeds door-to-door. |
Bedford Cost Segregation's Jan Fiola, Teel StatVisor's Cindy Wozny-Carl, and Circle Realty Advisor's Jean Meilinger stopped by, but are also working on planning the third annual CREW Careers Day; it introduces Girl Scouts to different professions in real estate. Look for that, hopefully, in October. |
