Four New Leases in "Instant Downtown"
The people have spoken. At the end of '09, 300 VIP shoppers at Burr Ridge Village Center lifestyle center listed what they wanted, including a bookstore and Mexican restaurant. Northmarq listened and its Scott Rolston and Kimberly Mans signed Barbara's Bookstore and Abrazo Latin Kitchen.

Also on the new tenant list for 2010: DESTIHL, a Bloomington-based restaurant and a new furniture store out of Dallas. Barbara's is slated to open later this month, taking 8k SF, including a 2.5k SF reading room, opening in December. The 20-acre center launched in '07, and the four new leases bring its retail space to 75% occupancy. The retail draws from customers above the shops: both condos and 36k SF of office space, with additional traffic coming from nearby suburbs like Hinsdale, LaGrange, and  Willowbrook. Scott says the center functions as a downtown for Burr Ridge, which uses it for farmer's markets and summer concerts. Barbara's Bookstore may also help out nearby Darien-it's library is under renovation and may use the bookstore for public events.

Abrazo and brew pub DESTIHL will join Topaz and Cooper's Hawk Winery in the menu of upscale restaurants at the center. Still left on the desired tenant list? A jewelry store, says Scott. With about 5k SF of remaining office space and 36% of the condos still to be sold, the center's leasing and sales have built up some steam since the end of the recession. Mid-America  has handled the retail leasing for the owner, Opus North. Northmarq manages the center.
