Got This Great Little Brownfield . . .
June 22, 2011
Selling brownfields is no easy task. It takes time to assess the buildings and subsurface (we think that means underground) and clean them up so they can be used again, according to GE's Jim Van Nortwick. He'll be speaking at the Bisnow Midwest Brownfield Summit tomorrow. (Last chance to sign up!) |
About five years ago, Jim joined GE and helped pilot a brownfield program designed to identify liabilities and manage risks. Since then, the company has been able to successfully return several properties to productive reuse. Now he's preparing 15 to 20 more sites for sale and is hopeful that he'll be able to find buyers in the near future as the demand for land picks up. |
