| Zagat says that Roka Akor (at 111 W Illinois) is one of Chicago’s “Top Newcomers,” and we even hear that Jesse Metcalfe has shown up to eat there. But we have a more fundamental real estate question: what is it about River North that keeps attracting these kinds of restaurants? Alter Group SVP Matt Ward—Alter is Roka Akor’s landlord—tells us that its adjacency to the CBD got things rolling for the neighborhood, but it’s more than that: It's the influx of a residential population downtown and the fact it’s still a low-rise area, which makes for a good walking neighborhood. “River North simply has a real cool feel to it,” Matt says. |
