Howard Ecker's Youthful Revolution
The tenant-rep only brokerage team at Howard Ecker + Co. is showing remarkable adaptation skills. Howard himself may be a real estate legend, but he's giving credence to his young professionals and their new ideas. |
It's such an epic company that we felt black and white was the only way to show them. The brokerage team includes Cara Butikofer, Ira Perlman, Ashley Newman, Kevin O'Reilly, Howard Ecker, Howard's daughter Valentine Ecker, Stuart Eng, and Meghan Smith. One trick to staying ahead of its time: embracing social media and listing sublease space on Craigslist. Most recently, it completed a 10k-SF lease for Mitchell & Titus LLP at 333 W. Wacker. Sadly, that terra cotta warrior above is having more trouble than most changing with the times. |
Back in color, Howard Ecker's Green Team has varied backgrounds to help the year-and-a-half old practice run smoothly: Claire Woolley used to be an environmental attorney in New Zealand and London;Jim Cohen worked in commercial interiors; Carrie Langford consulted restaurants on waste and energy reduction; and, Evan Jahn is finishing his business degree after years as a professional sailor. The team is now working with five clients to implement programs such as Power Down, which helps companies find low cost, realistic, and environmentally friendly habits. |
As part of the green programs, the office overhauled itself. Ashley Newman encouraged us to separate not just our trash and recycling, but also compost-- the company's upcoming worm composting program will save organic trash from landfills. There's also only one Xerox machine, and everyone goes double-sided. |
