MIXED-USE MELEE
September 19, 2011
This is not your typical apartments-above-storefronts mixed-use project: Leopado, TVS and Core Project Management are teaming up to build the new 61k SF Scottish Rite Cathedral for the 4,000-member Masonic fraternal organization—Scottish Rite Bodies Valley of Chicago in Bloomingdale. The new space will include a 279-seat theater complete with dressing rooms, costume and historic backdrop storage and lighting; a museum that will be home to Freemason relics from the Columbian Exposition; and a traditional lodge hall, bar, offices, and conference rooms. Leopardo's Michael Behm and TVS' Marc Ademan and Core Project Management Group's Joel Jaffe (not pictured) took us on a tour late last week. | |
The Scottish Rite sold its former Chicago HQ in the 900 block of North Dearborn to a developer and reinvested a portion of the capital into the new building in Bloomingdale and 16.3 acres of land for a total cost of $35M. The building includes limestone elements and a perforated metal-vaulted ceiling. Marc and Michael tell us their focus in designing and building based on the Freemason theme of taking a man and making him into a better man, so the building became more refined from the outside in. |
