MOVING BACK IN WITH THE 'RENTS
May 16, 2011
A Time article last week reported that 85% of college grads are moving back in with their parents after graduation. That's the highest number ever reported. But some Chicago landlords say they're starting to see that trend reverse. Habitat Co's Mark Segal says last year fewer households were created as Habitat saw its renters move back home or with roommates. This year, young people in Chicago have more confidence in their jobs and are getting their own places (maybe in places like Habitat's Kingsbury Plaza). Fifield's Alan Schactman says he's seen significant growth in the company's sweet spot of 25 to 35- year-old renters—maybe not straight out of college, but still getting a foothold as renter. |
