NEOCON WRAPS UP AT THE MART
June 16, 2011
Chicagoans, you can finally get hotel rooms again! The three-day NeoCon interior design and contract furnishings trade show ended yesterday. We snapped USGBC's Nicolette Mueller, Katie Bergfeld, and Isabelle Wilson at their booth, where they told us the council just announced a new LEED pilot credit for certified products. The point can be used by manufacturers, architects, builders, or project managers.
LG isn't just a brand that creates your cell phone handset. LG Hausys's Peter Zbytniewski tells us the company also makes porous and non-porous services like countertops, railings, and DJ booths. (Who knew?) Here in its booth, LG Hausys tried to show off as many uses as possible—an archway, a nurses' station, and even a dress made out of plastic surfacing materials.
CAD and AutoCAD have been brought to a whole new level with ProjectMatrix's new software. ProjectMatrix's Kevin Kittrell showed us the program, which allows designers to draw the size and shape of the room and then pick furniture from 80 different designers. It then renders the room in 2D and 3D so you can see how it all fits (which would be a great tool for those of us who pick apartments too small to fit their stuff). The software has been sold to manufacturers like Haworth, Steelcase, and Allsteel. |
