REFF: It Was Better Than 2009
Levin Realty Advisors' Ryan Calahan and HFF's Mike Kavanau
The second worst year  in recent memory is done, and 750 crowded Chicago's newest hotel, the J.W. Marriott, for a Real Estate Finance Forum on the topic. We snapped Levin Realty Advisors' Ryan Calahan and HFF's Mike Kavanau drinking to Mike's recent deals, which include a $100M apartment portfolio sale. HFF's also slated to close on the mezz debt piece in the sale of 353 N. Clark early this week, Mike tells us.
Cornerstone Properties' Elvin Velez, Timothy Kenny and Stephen Murray
Cornerstone Properties' Elvin VelezTimothy Kenny, and Stephen Murray used their heights as a bar graph to display this years' trend. Over the last two months, they've arranged $65M in financing for the new  AMLI River North apartment project at Clark and Hubbard and $66M  in construction loans for the new RadissonBlu in Aqua Tower.
US Bank's David Star and GGP's Steve Janowiak
US Bank's David Star and GGP's Steve Janowiak were toasting Steve's new job at the now out-of-bankruptcy mall owner. Steve is part of a new 18-person  research and analysis group looking for the best opportunities to acquire shopping centers throughout the country. He's focusing on the Baltimore region (and so is our newest Bisnow pub!). He says starting now at GGP feels like a clean slate as the company's restructuring takes effect.

BPG's Brian Roberts, Aviv Asset Management's Kristin Bertram and Wells Fargo's Gabe Horstick
Also making some deals to close out the year, BPG's Brian Roberts, Aviv Asset Management's Kristin Bertram, and Wells Fargo's Gabe Horstick. Gabe recently closed on a shopping center in RichmondVa. and is looking at opportunities in the Chicago area. Kristin's company bought an assisted-living portfolio in Connecticut  and a few skilled-nursing facilitie s in the Midwest.
