ROLLING ON THE RIVERS
July 18, 2011
Last night, high rollers all over Chicago celebrated the opening of Rivers Casino in Des Plaines. The 137k SF venue is the first to feature a gaming floor over a pool of water instead of a riverboat in the State of Illinois.
We snapped Former Illinois Senate president Emil Jones with Midwest Gaming's Neil Bluhm and his sister. Rivers holds the state's 10th and final casino license, but a casino expansion bill could provide more licenses (including one for the city of Chicago) soon. Rivers has more than 800 gaming positions on its 44k SF casino floor.
DMA's Charles Porter, one of the design/builders on the Rivers project, tells us he was happy to see everything working just the way he thought it would turn out. The casino includes several restaurants like Canopy Buffet, Hugo's Frog Bar, and Mian Bar Noodle Shop and is among the first LEED-certified casinos in the country. The skylight just above Charles' head is providing natural light onto the gaming floor as one of the green elements.
