Rooftop Victuals
September 13, 2012
An unusual tenant signed a deal recently when BrightFarms leased one-acre of rooftop space at the Bradley Business Center to build a farm. The company specializes in hydroponic greenhouse farms that eliminate distance and cost from the food supply chain. (Pictured: a farm in New York, image courtesy BrightFarms.) Centrum Partners SVP Michael McLean tells us that his company had been exploring the possibility of an urban farm for months at the request of Ald. Ameya Pawar. “We met with several companies before Cathy Byrne of Baird & Warner introduced us to BrightFarms,” he notes. “With our central location, it makes sense for a company like BrightFarms to be here.” |
