Roosevelt Gets Facelift
The nation's second tallest educational building will have a new look in 2012. Roosevelt's James Gandre, VOA's Chris Groesbeck, and Roosevelt's Chuck Middleton and James Mitchell held a town hall on Tuesday to discuss the changes with the public. Its 32 stories will include student services, classrooms, and residence halls in the same building, on the site of Crown Hall.
The building tries to complement the existing Sullivan architecture of the Fine Arts Building and the Auditorium Building without directly mimicking it, Chris says. The project, which was financed through a bond sale, will be LEED-certified: 20% of materials recycled, low flow plumbing, and outdoor plantings on the ground level. Still in the works: solving the age-old college problem of not getting your pajama pants dirty when walking to class.
